Pet identity crisis!

I joke around that my dog thinks she is a cat, because of the way she will rub against someones legs (you know, the way cats do), but lately I have become convinced that my Akita really is a cat.

We went to the pet store and got a few things for the cat, like capnip, some little ball/bell toys and a catnip mouse. We get home and set the bag down on the coffee table, Ares was right there sniffing away all excited. We pull out the catnip to show Yuki, she didn’t seem interested, then Ares came over, excitedly wagging her tail and sniffing away…Umm…OK…I went into the office where I have a rug set up for the cat, one she can/likes to scratch on, sprinkled some catnip figuring she would take an interest, she walked away, then in comes Ares sniffing at it and lapping it up. *sigh* Back out to the living room where I take out one of those ball/bell things and roll it on the floor for Yuki, Ares wanted to chase it so to distract her I said, “Here, play with this.” and pulled out the catnip mouse…And guess what? Ares happily played with it, she LOVED it! Basically, the dog likes cat toys more than the cat does. And last night Yuki was chasing after me, you know, like a dog would.  Also, I can’t forget about the other day; as Ares was following Yuki around every now and then the cat would meow, then the dog would howl/whine, the weird part was Ares sounded like she was trying to imitate the cat meow…Seriously, at one point the dog sounded like she was meowing…

…I am so confused.

Cat update: After the first few nights Amanda decided she no longer wanted the Yuki in her room overnight because she was waking Amanda up early every morning, usually with a stinky kitty poo…So the kitty now sleeps in the office at night. Things have calmed down a little, Ares doesn’t bother Yuki as much, but she will still follow her around every now and then and if Yuki gets excited and starts to run around Ares will chase her, and that seems to freak Yuki out. Understandable, I know that I’d get freaked out if I had a big dog chasing me around! 🙂

So far this week…

Valentines went pretty good, Ken went out really early to get me some of my favorite chocolates, like Ferrero Rocher (mmm), because he felt bad about not getting me something. Hmm, I should have gotten jewelry out of this! 😉 We had Ceasar salad and I ended up making chicken cacciatore and strawberry trifle for dessert. Ken actually ate everything (even the salad! That is unusual for him. lol) , we ended up splitting one dessert because they were kind of big. I also made a small one for Amanda to try and was surprised that that she liked it, usually she does not like to mix different things together.

I haven’t been really sick this week or had any accidents, like last week. Yay, me! And, as mentioned in my previous post, I worked from home one day and went in to the office for a half day which led to us bringing home a very friendly, sweet kitty…Who only wants to eat and sleep and always wants someone around her. Yuki stays in Amand’s room at night and has decided that she likes to sleep on the dog bed in there, Ares doesn’t seem to mind. Day 2 with the kitty started off with Ares not wanting anything to do with her, she gave the cat a wide berth whenever she had to pass by her and she would not lie down in her usual spots, like near the couch, because Yuki was on it. Then later that suddenly all changed and I have no clue why. Anytime Yuki got up to explore Ares would constantly follow her around and just kept sniffing at her, sometimes letting out little whines as she did so. If Yuki stopped to lay down, so did Ares.

At one point while Yuki slept on the couch Ares decided she had to come up there as well, usually I don’t like her on the couch, but I didn’t have the heart to kick her off, she just wanted to lie down with her new little friend. 🙂 Because of that I was squished on one side with Yuki right up against me, and partly on me, and Ken was squished on the other side with a dog butt near him…That part amused me.

I was hoping to get out to Borders this weekend, but then I remembered that Ken has an event to work on Saturday. Those always kill our weekends, but we need the money.

 

Stray Cat Strut

A couple days last week, and a day this week, I had been working from home, today Ken called and told me that they wanted me to come into the office and do some stuff after lunch. So of course I went, we get there and find out that they have a stray cat in their yard, they couldn’t keep him because they already have enough animals. Me and Ken went out to have a look at her; she was gobbling up some food that they had given her and when she was done she came out to greet me. Such a sweet little kitty, and painfully thin, the poor thing. And for some reason we decided we would take her home. Yup, so now we have a kitty added to our family!

Here is our sweet little Calico cat, Yuki:

We let Amanda name her, Ken is not good with coming up with names and I have named about a million pets so I figured it was about time for someone else to do it! Amanda choose the name from an Anime/Manga she likes, Vampire Knight. So far all Yuki wants to do is sleep and eat. Ares seems to like her, well at least she hasn’t tried to eat her…Yet. I suspect that Ares is waiting for us to fatten up the kitty for her. 😉
