A new edition to the Stouffer’s Corner Bistro line of frozen foods is a soup and sandwich combo. This seems like a great idea for a couple of reasons; with the colder months almost upon us soup and melts sound wonderful, and we’re always looking for quick easy meals for those days when there is not enough time, or maybe for when we’re not feeling well.
Like a lot of people I have a budget and because of that I was going to pass up trying these, but last week I found a dollar off coupon for one so I had to give it a try.
Cost: $2.42 (Walmart) It can cost up to $3 at other places. Update: The price at my Walmart has gone up to $3.27 (too much IMO)
chicken bacon ranch stuffed melt with baked potato soup
steak and Swiss stuffed melt with broccoli cheddar soup
three cheese and ham stuffed melt with creamy tomato bisque soup
I settled on the chicken bacon ranch stuffed melt with baked potato soup.
The Stuffed Melt: When I took it out of the microwave I was glad to see that the filling did not leak out the way Hot Pockets always seem to. The bread had a nice herb flavor and was crisp (it cooks in a crisping sleeve), the filling also tasted quite nice. It’s not as filled as it looks in the photo, but we all know that the photos are deceiving.
The Soup: The box says it’s a creamy loaded baked potato soup, I’m not sure what they mean by “loaded”. It had small bits of something green and flavorless (broccoli?) and there was a little sprinkling of cheese. It was creamy, as promised, and the potatoes came out very nice, not soggy like I expected. The soup was actually pretty tasty.
Bottom line: Worth a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. It’s not a bad little meal to keep on hand for when you want something quick and tasty.
