Dr. Horrible cosplay

By now I am sure everyone knows all this stuff…But I was bored and love Dr. Horrible cosplay/costumes be it for Halloween, a convention or just because. When I did this I wanted to find it quick and inexpensive ideas. Others out there have gone all out on costumes, especially for Dr. Horrible, but I just don’t have the time or money for stuff like that. *sigh* So here are my simple ideas if you want to be Dr. H, Penny, Captain Hammer or a groupie!

Ken, my boyfriend, has a Dr. H costume though it is not as good as we wanted it to be (some work needs to be done) but it is passable. So if you are not worried about details…

Dr. Horrible: Boots, Goggles – sadly no one seems to have the exact pair anymore but the ones that are available are easily altered…All you need is a can of silver/chrome spray paint. Gloves – and those are the exact gloves. Lab Coat It takes some alterations but all we did was remove the buttons on the left side of it and paint the rest of them white and we cut slits up the sides and you might even want to have the hem of it taken up a little. There are a few more alterations I would like to make to it though. Like adding the pocket with the symbol on it and putting the…whatever it is called on the back. All I need for that is 2 buttons (2 of the ones I removed) and a piece of material (maybe even cut from it before taking up the hem). The simplest part of the costume is the pants. Just find a cheap pair of tan khakis.

Penny: Being Penny is fairly simple. Just buy some clothes that are similar to her style in Dr. Horrible and maybe add a prop…As mentioned in an old post I like the idea of the clipboard (with some fliers)…Quick ideas for “Caring Hands” Penny style clothes; Tank, Jeans, Shoes, Hoodie, Belt.

Captain Hammer: If you need help with how to dress like Captain Hammer then you are just being way too lazy But here ya go anyway;  Cargos, Hammer-Tee, Boots and Gloves. You will have to supply the cocky attitude all on your own.

Groupies: I think groupies should dress a little fun, colorful. Ya know? The obvious point is the fan tee, maybe a cute skirt (or jean skirt & leggings?)and some comfy flats. And do something fun with your hair, add some colorful, playful hair accessories and of course do not forget some fun jewelry! A good place to get stuff like that is at Claire’s. And if you are Dr. H groupies you will of course need to wear some goggles on top of your head.

Part-time job?

The job fairy in Indy does not like me and has seen fit that no matter what I do I can’t get a job out here. But after over a year of living here I might have finally found a job. Maybe…I am not sure if it is going to be offered to me or not. And it is not even a job I applied for.

In my last post I mentioned how I worked a few hours at Kens place of employment (for his grandparents) I was asked to work today as well so I went in with Ken this morning and worked a full day there today doing all the mindless stuff so they could do the things that they needed to focus on (they are really busy right now). Anyway Kens aunt (the mother of his cousin who quit there) quit today. She was planning on leaving at the end of December but some stuff blew up today and she decided she does not want to come back anymore. So I am going in again tomorrow cause there is still a lot of things they need to get done, and most of it by Thursday. So I am helping them with that and hopefully since they have this position open now they will ask me to work there. They know I can’t find a job and I also do not have a car so it works that way too, since Ken and I can go to and from work together.

So if they ask me I will take it. It’s only 3 days a week but that is fine because at least I will be making some money…Unlike now with the whole not making money thing…which just sucks. Plus with us only working together 3 days a week it ensures that we will not kill each other from over-exposure lol

So yay! Job! *fingers crossed*

10/31 Small update: Just got my pay from the days that I worked and the job pays better than I would have thought…so now I really want it!

Jobs.

Not really much to say on the subject but I was bored so here I am.

On Thursday and Friday I actually got to work a little. And I mean VERY little…and I don’t know if it really qualifies as work…But I am getting paid for it at least. On Thursday, sometime after my boyfriend went back to work after lunch, he called me and said they needed some help cutting the corners off these things (they were made wrong and needed adjusting)…So I sat there for over 2 hours cutting them…and on Friday I did it for over 3 hours. Pretty lame, but whatever. I got out of the house and am going to get paid to do something easy so it’s all good. My daughter helped as well (guess you could say it was her first job)…Once she heard money was involved she couldn’t wait. haha

Still haven’t heard back from any jobs I have put in for and lately the jobs are even more scarce. The only ones I can seem to find are places looking for Holiday help. I have been putting in for every place I can because even if I had a job for a coupe of months I’ll be happy with that (for now) and it’ll be a little bit of money that will help out over the holidays. But as usual I hear nothing back.

Ken (the boyfriend) wants to leave his job. It takes up much of his time (lately he has been working everyday) and he is doing a lot more than he wants to do, especially now that his cousin quit. Basically he just wants to do web design and graphics but doesn’t get to do that as much as he would like. Not to mention he works for his grandfather who can have a very bad attitude (to put it mildly). Basically Ken is very unhappy. He does make a decent amount of money though…Yeah that is pretty much the only good thing for him there.

Random bites:

I have recently found out that Hungry Howie’s pizza is really yummy…And now that I mentioned it I want some. mmm

I miss going to Borders, getting a caramel latte and reading magazines (or the recent Dresden Files book). I haven’t been there in what feels like forever.

Been feeling like drawing again these days but haven’t done much of it. Though I recently drew a cartoon version Ken.

About a week ago Ken shaved off his beard. I have never seen him without it before so it freaked me out for a couple of days and all I could do was look at his chin. lol

Lately I often wonder what it is like to have a life and maybe a friend. I kind of forget.

My life these days; staying home all the time. I really only ever get out to do grocery shopping once a week. You know you’re jealous.

Since I am home all the time you would think that I have a spotless home. But you would be wrong. I am just so bored and lazy. I have absolutely no energy so I don’t feel like doing much but sleep…and play World of Warcraft. heh

I know, I know. Why don’t I do something to change it? I just don’t know how. This place (Indianapolis) is alien to me. I don’t have any friends, can’t find a job, don’t have a car, there is pretty much no public transportation and nothing in walking distance. Back home I had all of those things but since I have moved…Well…Nothing. All I have is my boyfriend to whom I am pretty much a burden because I have to depend on him so much. As far as having no energy I am working on that. I just started to take vitamins again and trying to eat better foods and find a way to be more physically active (like yard work and walking the dog and some exercise) so I can gain more energy and feel like doing things around here again.

Oh…I lied I don’t just go out for grocery shopping. Lately I have been making my boyfriend take me out about once a week for ice cream as well. It can’t be helped. I love ice cream and the ice cream place will be closing soon! We used to go to Borders once a week to read some magazines and have a drink in the cafe but we don’t do that much anymore. Probably for the best because I can’t afford my caramel latte anymore

Yeah. No point to this really except to whine a little since I don’t blog much…Of course I need a life to actually find something to blog about…Yeah…I’m in a rut here. HELP!?!
