I’m anti-social
Please realize that and stop asking me to things.
Here’s the thing…I basically like to spend my Holidays in a quiet way, which means with as few people as possible. That probably makes me an anti-social bitch, but that’s OK, cause I like it like that.
I also prefer to spend the holidays at my own home where I can just kick back, relax and feel comfortable. Dropping by someones house is fine, I just don’t want to be there all day. Ken is the same way as me, I was happy to find someone else like this. I should add; this does not mean that I don’t like people…Well OK so I really don’t like people…Umm…Yeah, let’s just move on now…
Ahem
Ever since I moved out here Kens family has asked us to various family gatherings, mostly Holiday stuff, and I honestly have no desire to go to any (or at least most) of them. Why? Because some of the people make me feel uncomfortable and I just feel really out of place. Those things/feelings will never change, it’s the way I am in certain situations and around certain people. Been like this for 37 years. So even if I like some of the people and don’t mind being around them, I still don’t want to go (unless it was only those people), but can usually suffer through for a little bit.
A couple of weeks ago Ken said his grandparents invited us for Thanksgiving dinner, he said it would be us, his cousin (and his gf) and his aunt. Only problem with this is that I don’t really like Kens aunt because of an incident when I first moved out here; She got mad because I did not want to spent Christmas at her house. Ken told me he had no desire to go and had no clue why she even asked and me and my daughter didn’t even know her, and we had no desire to spend Christmas with someone we did not know, not to mention someone Ken said he never actually bothered with. He never spent Christmas with her before, so what was the big deal? Anyway, she was all pissy because I am not religious and I guess that means I have no right to spend Christmas with my family in the way that I want. She asks every year, and I will NEVER spend Christmas with that religious flake. Oh, and when we refused the invite we simply said that since it was our first holiday in our new home we were looking forward to spending it there, together, we weren’t rude or anything. But she was. Anyway, I figured since she would be the only person there for Thanksgiving that I didn’t like then I could tolerate it and agreed to go. Then I found out we would not even be having turkey, but steak. Thanksgiving steak? Uhh…OK…I like steak, but still. Whatever, guess I can deal with that too. But then a few days back I found out that Kens mom, step-dad and 3 little sisters are all coming down too. I no longer find this situation tolerable.
His mom seems like a nice enough person, I just find her personality way too overwhelming and draining. Plus she makes me feel uncomfortable, she even makes Ken uncomfortable, neither of us can relax around her. I also don’t like how she is always getting on Kens case because he gained some weight (yet he still fits into the same clothes, go figure). He was a freaking stick figure before, and he was not healthy then, but I guess it was OK because he was skinny…she dislikes over weight people and makes it pretty clear that she does. Here is a bit of advice for people; when you see/talk to a family member…Don’t nag them or try to pressure them. They don’t f’ing like it! And it will make them want to stay as far away from you as possible. But if that is your goal, then go for it. Just know you are pushing that person further and further away. Now back to the family…His step-dad seems OK, I just don’t have a clue what he is saying, it’s like he mumbles when he talks (and Ken says he is a drinker). Then there are the 3 little sisters…I’m pretty sure that they are demon spawn. The littlest one seems sweet enough, but put them all together and I want to run away screaming. I understand they get excited to see their big brother, but they are way too freaking insane. One might think they are hopped up on sugar, but I don’t think that is the case (I’m pretty sure they are not allowed any). They spend their time climbing all over Ken like little monkeys, fighting over him, stealing and hiding his things and getting into everything they possibly can, even though they are being told “no”. Unruly children are a pet peeve of mine. So for someone like me who likes things quiet and relaxing this is a bloody freaking nightmare.
And to top it off I found out today that his grandparents want to a watch a movie with all of us, this is not doable by any stretch of the imagination. We would all be crammed into the room like sardines. We tried this last year around Christmas; me, Amanda, Ken, his mom, 3 little sisters, step-dad, and of course his grandparents. There was no space, people were all over the place sitting on arms of chairs, all over the floor. I could barely get out of the room when I need to go to the bathroom! And the way the room is positioned makes it very uncomfortable for watching TV, you basically have to sit with your neck craned to the side. It was miserable and I never want to do it again. Oh, I also can’t figure out where everyone is going to sit for dinner, there wasn’t enough seating last year for the 1o of us around Christmas, so how are we seating 13?
I want out of this Thanksgiving. But I am stuck, will have to figure out how to deal. But how?
Maybe I can just pretend they are a bunch of gaming, sci-fi geeks, like me.
Bento
Finally bought Amanda a bento box! I’ve had trouble finding one that was cute, came with a carrying bag and was inexpensive. In the end I went to ebay and found one for a total (w/shipping) of $20. Still seems like a lot of money to me, but it was cheaper than all the others, and was just what we were looking for. While I was at it I found rice ball molds in the shape of a star and a heart (for only $1.75). Whenever I try to make onigiri they come out looking kind of pathetic. lol So I had to get something to help me shape them. They just both came in the mail today, that was fast! And the bento box came straight from Japan. It really is super cute, can’t wait to fill it up with some goodies.
Amanda is one of the pickiest eaters I know (Ken is another one) so her bento will be filled with the stuff she likes such as; Onigiri, Tamagoyaki and Yakitori will also put in some carrot and celery sticks as well as apple slices. I will have to hunt down some other bento food ideas that Amanda will like. And I won’t be getting all creative and making really cool looking bentos because it’s time consuming and I would probably just make it look bad. heh

The car issue
OK so last week I posted about what happened to our car. Well the next day after the accident Ken managed to get the passenger door to open, which I was very happy about. Yesterday him and his grandfather took the car to a shop to get an estimate of the damage…I forget at the moment what he said it came to but since it came to more that what the car was worth (as we knew it would) the car is considered totaled. Not sure what this means as far as what happens next, I’ve never had a problem like this before with a car. *sigh*
We also might have an opportunity to get another car because Brooke, Kens cousins girlfriend, might be getting more money at work and if she does they want to get rid of her car and get a new one. Eric, Kens cousin, said he would sell it to him for $5000. My only concern is that Brooke got into a car accident once and I have no clue if the car has problems. I really do not want to end up with another clunker. But if the car is in decent shape it would be a lot better than what we have now. I can just picture it…Quiet, 4-door, trunk, AC and so on. Sounds like a dream.
I should note that if Ken was not obsessed with spending money and charging up cards on all the latest technology we would probabaly be able to go and get a damn car without having to do it through family. But he spends a good thousand (for all I know more) a month to pay off all his computers (and mine and Amandas) and various other techy things. Geek.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm leaked
Update 8/21/09: Just announced at Blizzcon! It’s all true! YAY! World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
mmo-champion.com posted all the leaked info
I feel like it’s too good to be true, but it could be legit (mmo-champion, as far as I know, usually has reliable info) a lot of it would make sense. But I am trying not to get too excited about it in case it turns out not to be true….OK, I admit I am still geeking out over the stuff in that link. I can’t help it.
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the next expansion for World of Warcraft. Dark and forgotten threats that have long stayed out of sight have finally arrived on our shores, unleashing a cataclysmic event upon Azeroth and now preparing more nefarius plans to take it back.
One of the things I am most excited about and would love to see…
Worgen
The cataclysm has cracked open the Greymane Wall, finally revealing what has happened to the kingdom of Gilneas and its citizens. With the Worgen curse taken hold, they have found a partial cure, allowing them to retain their Human minds even when transformed. Venturing forth from Gilneas and seeking help from the Alliance, they have decided to join them, to combat the new threats of Cataclysm.
And it would be about time that humans get to be hunters. Makes me think of the South Park episode, ‘Make Love Not Warcraft’, where Stans father says he is a human hunter, never mind the fact that humans can’t be hunters, he is obviously wearing the gear that warriors start out with. lol
The Bright Side
Things keep breaking and I think Ken is feeling a little stressed over it. He needs to be like me and look at the bright side!
The other day, which I already posted about, our car got sideswiped and we could not get the passenger door to open (this is piled on a bunch of other problems the car already has, also mentioned in my other post). The bright side: The car still works, it gets us places. If it didn’t we’d be really screwed. Thankfully yesterday Ken messed around with the door and it now opens again! Yay! We really do need a new car though.
Yesterday Ken said something about the toilet handle in our bathroom being too loose so he tightened it, I had noticed it felt a bit ‘off’ as well…But later on Ken flushed it and the handle broke…So now we can’t use our bathroom (til we get a new handle). The bright side: We have 2 bathrooms.
My keyboard started acting all funky yesterday and can no longer be used. The bright side: Still had an old one laying around that works (though it is not as cool as my newer one).
But straying from the bright side of things, we have way too much that needs to be fixed/replaced and it can be overwhelming. Some of it are small things but when added to everything else it all seems to be too much. Here is a list of our stuff (excluding what is mentioned above)…
Need to…
get tiles for bathroom wall because of water damage (which has caused mold problems).
replace a doorknob.
replace a bedroom door because of a hole.
patch up a wall with a big hole.
fix another wall that has water damage.
figure out how to clean the hot tub, it is a mess.
stain the deck.
fix, possibly replace, the backdoor (sliding glass door).
fix the broken light post in our yard.
get rid of the horrible weed problem.
eventually replace the kitchen floor, due to a spot that is burned.
We just do not have the money to do anything, even some of the simplest do it yourself projects so we certainly can’t hire people. It sucks. Where is that bright side again? I forget. heh
I am probably forgetting stuff and will end up adding to this list another time. *sigh*
I need a break. Haven’t been to the bookstore in forever and unfortunately Ken works this weekend. I just want to go there to relax and unwind while doing some reading (of the books/graphic novels that I can’t afford).
Update (8/18):
We fixed the toilet handle the next day and while we were at the hardware store we also bought a new door knob for that door I mentioned. Though it is still not put in, at least we have it. lol
Always something *sigh*
The car we have isn’t the greatest. I know nothing about cars so I can’t give you details or explain why things in the car do what they do but this is what I can say…It is loud. No point in trying to talk while in it and I don’t even know why he bothers to put on the radio. The AC does not work, I can usually deal with that but there are just some days I feel like I am dying in that car. The trunk is ruined, somehow, and it is impossible to put anything in it so when we go grocery shopping we have to pile everything in the back seat (of a 2 door car, so it is very annoying) and it stalls in rain puddles, which we usually try to avoid but sometimes we just can’t. Like a couple of weeks ago as we were going home for lunch we hit some water we could not avoid, had we been able to keep going straight home, which was right around the corner by that point, we would have been fine and the car would have stalled in our garage and dried out by the time we’d have to go back to work…But no, that would be too easy. Instead there was a lot of traffic (which was unusual) and we had to stop and we stalled right in the middle of the road. Thankfully a very nice man helped us push it off the street and out of the way and then Ken pushed it on his own towards the house while I steered…Poor Ken, he over did it.
So to make things worse; today while we were at work Kens grandpa was leaving to head out somewhere and he sideswiped our car. The passenger side is destroyed and we can’t open the door.
Well I can say this much for the car, it is still running. Which is a good thing since we have no money and public transportation is pretty much non-existent out here. But the whole not being able to open the door thing is a pain in the ass. Maybe I should just keep the window down and slide into it like they did on The Dukes of Hazard.
Bummer…
unfortunately we will not be able to attend GenCon this year, we simply do not have the money. It was a lot of fun last year and we got to see some great costumes, buy some cool things (like a signed copy of The Guild season 1), checked out some games and Amanda got to watch some new/different anime and of course get some anime related items. I wish we had a convention that had a bit more to it though. GenCon is mostly about games, board games and whatever. I love games, but would like to see more. Basically I want a different convention. lol Something with equal and awesome doses of; Games (online, PC, board, card etc), sci-fi (books, tv, movies), fantasy (books, tv, movies), anime/manga and have some actual guests (like at the others conventions). All we got for guests last year at GenCon were David Faustino (Bud on Married With Chidren), who never seemed to be there, some people from “Who wants to be a Superhero” (I think that’s the name) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca). Peter is cool and all, but let’s face it…that is not much of a guest list and it was kind of sad because it seemed like no one cared to meet any of them. Though I was happy when I found out that Wizards of the coast had R.A. Salvatore hanging out (love his books!). I was hoping to go this year because it was fun, even though some things were disappointing. *sad face*
So thanks to a killer migraine and feeling sick I have missed work this week (my 3 whole days lol). So I spent my time, when I wasn’t down with bad migraine pain, playing WoW, on my main raising my rep. Lv 80 and was only exalted with Stormwind (and I play a Night Elf heh) So now the only Alliance faction I have left to reach exalted with is Gnomeregan Exiles…Just realized this is turning into a geek post. Am I really this much of a geek? *sigh*
Hope I feel better tomorrow because I want to head out to the bookstore and finish reading that Buffy graphic novel I started a couple weeks ago (volume 2 of season 8). Yes, that is how I like to spend my Friday nights…Hmm…guess I really am that much of a geek. Oh well.
Being sick makes me feel so damn bored and restless. Ahhh!
OK since I have nothing else to do off to gain rep with the gnomes. lol
Oh…Hello there!
Nothing ever happens, which is why I never post. *sigh*
Well I haven’t been able to work lately because there simply was nothing for me to do but I should be going back this week because we have a race coming up on the weekend and another one the weekend after that. Which is good because I am about to run out of money. Then it slows down for another couple of weeks, but picks up again on August 22 then stays steady until at least the end of September. We don’t seem to have anything for October yet (if we will at all) but at least there’s couple for November. So I need to be extra careful with my money.
Went to a couple of movies this month. Saw Transformers 2 in imax with Ken and Amanda, a lot of people are saying they hated it, but I liked it (liked the first one better though) then I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with Amanda (Ken is not an HP fan). I wanted to see it in imax but the stupid theater won’t have it until the end of the month, bastards! Of course the movie was packed, worse part about that was the couple who sat next to me. They never shut up and they didn’t even whisper. Everyone around them kept glaring, but they seemed not to care. People like that need to be hung. Also, infants and toddlers need to be banned from movies (and some restaurants). Who the hell wants to hear a baby crying or small children loudly whining throughout a movie (or a nice dinner)? No one, that’s who. If you can’t find a baby sitter then stay the hell home. Grrr.
My 37th b’day was on the 8th…Thirty-seven…Sometimes I forget that I am that old! lol Ken got me a cupcake cake for my b’day and season 7 of Smallville (blueray). It was a nice day!

Geek news: On July 4th I finally got my main toon in WoW to level 80! Also Amanda is now playing the game so the 3 of us started toons on a new realm. We rolled Night Elves; Amanda is a hunter, Ken is a warrior and I am a priest. At level 20 we decided to see if we could take on deadmines, we did and only wiped twice…Other than that we kicked ass! ![]()
Finished watching all my Buffy and Angel DVDs (we had been watching those every night) and now I feel sad that we are done with them, so I started reading Buffy season 8 and Angel season 6 graphic novels at the bookstore! We also finished watching our afternoon DVD show, which was ST:DS9 and have started to watch season 1 of Sci-fi’s The Invisible Man, I still miss that show! Season 2 is on hulu.com, sadly not on DVD…I hope they release it on DVD but for now I will have to watch it on hulu (once I am done with season 1 of course).
So much to do
Wish I had more time to do all the stuff that needs to get done. Not to mention I also need money, that I don’t have, for some of it. There are no races for the next month at work so I was thinking I should take some time off so I can finally get things done around here. The only down side is I won’t be making any money, but I can make what I have in my checking account stretch.
I have quite a few things I want to do around here and the only way to get them done is if I do not have any ‘outside’ worries. First thing I need to do is some big time cleaning. Thanks to being sick for 2 weeks, and no one else doing anything, it’s kind of a disaster that I haven’t been able to tame yet. I would also like to get the garage clean, that has been neglected for awhile. And an annoying problem, the house seems to get ants. Dealt with it last year simply by spraying Max Defense (I think that is what it’s called) and putting out some ant traps. So that will be what I do after I get the house clean. Next up is my bathroom shower. I need to get tile for it because where the shower head is there is water damage, not sure why previous owners did not put tile up there, it only makes sense. Lots of stuff around the yard…There are other things I need to do as well, I don’t even think I can remember them all.
To summarize:
Clean the house (which includes getting rid of mold).
Defend home against bugs.
Put tile in bathroom shower.
Get the garage cleaned and organized (not a priority).
Finish pulling the weeds out from around the yard.
Stain the deck.
Fix a hole in the wall.
Ken will be taking a week off at the end of June so I hope to have a lot of stuff done by then so we don’t have to worry about those annoyances. During his week off I hope to do some stuff together as a family with him and Amanda. Like going to a movie and maybe the zoo or a museum (not sure which). And of course we will do things like play Rock Band and World of Warcraft together. I want that week to be ‘easy’ and I don’t want any problems around the house to worry about during that time!
A break from work will be nice. It can be kind of depressing there. I think it’s because I am used to working with a lot of people and having all kinds of personalities around and music and craziness.
Guess that’s it for now.
I joined twitter over 2 years ago and at the time was like, “What the hell is the point in this? I just don’t get it.” Didn’t really use it, maybe tweeted once or twice then forgot about it for over a year and only went back to it when I found out that Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton were on it. I have to say I am amazed at how popular twitter has become, back when I first joined I thought it was going no where. Shows how much I know.
One of the great things about celebrities being on twitter is you get to see them in a different light. It’s as if they become “real” (for lack of better term). Yeah, I know that sounds stupid. I’m not a big celebrity follower though or at least I don’t follow most big names. And back when I started following Felcia I believe she had only a couple thousand followers, if even that. I also realized recently that I mostly follow Whedonverse people and some Star Trek TNG cast. I love it when they post their personal photos, like the one I posted on here before of Alyson Hannigan with Alexis Denisof and baby Satyana (So Cute). She has also posted a photo of her new hair cut (Felica Day is also in the pic). Stuff like that makes me smile. Guess I am easy (not that kind of easy! geez!
).
And speaking of people from Buffy, and pics that make me smile, Adam Busch posted this photo on twitter…

If you are a Buffy fan then you know who all three of these people are. Amber Benson, Adam and Tom Lenk. They had all gone out to lunch one day and followers on twitter got to see this spiffy photo as a result.
Other Whedonverse people I follow are; Nathan Fillion , Jewel Staite, Anthony Stewart Head, Eliza Dushku, Dichen Lachman, Miracle Laurie, Clare Kramer, Emma Caufield, Julie Benz and that might be it for wheadonverse poeple, not sure. heh
Also the whole cast if The Guild is on twitter and I think I am following all of them. Gotta love that “Vork” (Jeff Lewis) actually tweets as Vork. lol
OK so I am sleepy and need to stop posting this blog because I forget what I wanted to talk about originally. Something like, “Join twitter. All the cool kids are doing it!”
